A Message from the President: Spring 2021 Planning Update

Dear Members of the Emmanuel College Community,

Even as we hear about the many ways our faculty and students are engaging virtually, we recognize how important it is to bring our community back to 400 The Fenway for the Spring 2021 semester.

Currently, the College is working to create the conditions for a safe reopening of classrooms, residence halls and common spaces in January. In collaboration with the Cambridge-based Broad Institute, we have implemented a comprehensive COVID-19 testing plan. In the coming weeks we will provide weekly communications on additional topics we know are on your minds, including:

  • Academic calendar
  • Instructional format
  • Residence hall opening and housing priorities
  • COVID-19 testing specifics
  • Protocols for physical distancing, isolation/quarantine, contact-tracing, cleaning and de-densification in accordance with state guidelines

The Spring 2021 semester will now begin on Wednesday, January 27th, one week later than originally planned. To further ensure community health, we, like many colleges, will not have a spring break, although we are looking at the academic calendar to ensure “breathing time” throughout the semester.

Unless there are significant changes in external conditions, we will soon return to our Boston campus—which, thanks to the construction and upgrades of facilities we have completed in recent years, remains a modern setting for living and learning. We are grateful for your continued flexibility, and we will continue to send regular updates.
